My ex Soviet comrade at work was talking to me about the various weapons they had back there in the 80's.

The Bizon magazine, as used by special ops was mentioned.  He said (or maybe I heard it wrong) that it was originally for the 7.62x39 round and they also had a version for the 5.45

looking on the web, mostly I see only mention of subgun calibers.

anyone got any other intel to share?

oh, here is one page about the subgun version:

F#$%ING H@LL. Another damned socialist let into this country. I think Obe916 and me should be in charge of the INS.

RotDorn: Don't diss the calico. This Bizon is only in 9x18 for peeps sake! At least Calico had the know how to produce a 9x19 gun.

actually, he is another 'capitalist pig' such as ourselves.   he will never go back to that stinkhole again (to paraphrase him).  he is quite happy to be away from it.

he also said the one for the AK's was 'squarish'.  I'll approach him next time I see him and ask more questions. (I didn't see him today)

I put $20 down on the table that after I Q&A him for 5 minutes, I'll prove he's for the redistribution of wealth in one way or another. Those people enjoy the KGB and central planning.

whatever

the topic is the Bizon magazine(s).  Either you have something to contribute, or not.

That's a sweet looking design.  Granted, it may/may not be a copy of the calico.  For pistol cal it is a fairly effecient way to carry ammo.  For rifle, I wouldn't know.....

Too bad there is no way of any of that stuff getting into the US into civilian hands.

I didn't look at the other links, but is this mag specific to a weopon designe.  As in, a gun has to be deisnged to use it?  Or can it be used in (in the 7.62x39 mentioned) in any AK?

Edit- just linking in a pic from one of the links.

Good grief, I'm just screwing with you people (aka being my typical asshole Yugoslavian Mountain Hound self....I hope the hell you people have seen Triumph).

Anyway, here's my "contribution":

club.guns.ru/eng/bizon.html

This is a good write up on the Bizon, and it shows the designers. "60 % of the BIZON components are interchangeable with the AK-100 series assault rifles."  They do in fact offer a 9x19 version, and a few other crazy ass cartridges.

Here's the page from Izmash. They have a 9x18 and a 9x18 "modern", which may be a typo. It's probably 9x19.

izhmash.udm.ru/arms/bizon2.html

Man, if we lived in a FREE country, it's quite possible I'd skip a MP5 for one of these in 9 mm. The trigger is the same as an AK-74's, which means a Red Star Arms trigger would be perfect!

Would the gas system be the same since it uses a much lower powered round? Seems that a round used in blowback style pistols would not work well in a gas piston rifle.

Anyway, the gun is light years behind the Calico. All the Calicos I see on TV shoot lazers! At least the Bizon doesn't look as cheap as the Calico.

Well, if a rifle version was made in 9mm, it could make it in.  But I'm not sure how the mag would make inside the US.  There is no way under current law.

I suppose a "cylender" drum under 7.62x39 could be refit on one that wasn't made for the cylinder.  If the back is the same, all you would need is a hook for the front, right?  Hook the front, swivel the mag up and latch the back in....

I wonder..... could a Saiga .410, 20 and 12 guage work w/ such a cylinder drum?  It would seem big, but man....
