Okay after much searching the "light side". I decided that I should get a saiga in 223. My thoughts on the subject, its a dependible design, already have ammo in 223, if someone takes it who cares, I think I could convert it later and at $310 its a good choice.  O BTW will not, or should I say hopefully will not scare the neighbors.  Any opinions before I go purchase?
Thanks for all the information you have given me in the past few weeks, I thank you for your support and the love of the second admendment.

Thats the lowest I've been able to find the .223 for.  Yes, I know the 7.62 is around 200 delivered but want to stick with the 223 caliber, for the hell of it.
Thanks

I saw two tables at the last weekend's show with pistol grip Saigas in 223 for $440 range, and the mags wobbled badly from left to right in the receiver.
Just another data point to refer to...

You can get one 7.62 Saiga on the auction sites.  Then there is the 20 shipping and 20 FFL fee.  But it sounds like you want a conversion, that will run another 350 dollars.  These will accept standard AK mags and are called Ak 103.  However, the stock Saiga only accept 10 rd mags, but you could modify them to accept pre-ban mags, but then you have to put some USA parts in there to make it all legal.
Hope this helps

ok conversion costs too much. ill just have to get a SAR. however humor me this. for a short range tactical weapon wouldnt a KELTEC SUB 2000 be a better choice in every way except range and single shot stopping power. the lack of stopping power is almost outweighed by a much quicker follow up shot from a low recoil pistol caliber isnt it? and most confrontations ar well inside the sub's 150 yard effective range. more like 99.999 percent of all encounters whether the gun is used or not.
