im just looking around in the rpk department, not going to buy anything (maybe?). saw arsenal's rpk-7, but that doesnt have a side rail on it. what other options are there for one of these rifles?

There's no reason that a rail can't be added to a milled RPK.  Here's one that Informer built that he added the rail to.
