I just do not uderstand why people want purple rifles?

Why was the color used for AK's? What was the reason?

Russians switched to black polyamide stocks and mags, but due to some technical issue, the early runs turned out with a plum tint.

They were never after "plum" plastic.

They've solved their technical issues and today issue "true black" furniture and mags.

Why are they popular? I dont know. I prefer black; I'm boring.

The Russians decided to use a material called polyamide for their handguards and stocks. They dyed it black, and it became very brittle and would break easily. Back off on the dye and it turns out plum.

Also it looks awesome. How can you NOT like plum? I think you're the weird one.

People want plum rifles to match their Russian plum bayonets.

http://northridgeinc.com/store/index.cfm/c3/i5

These are brand spanking new; no numbers etched or engraved anywhere; scabbard has original ink; arrow in triangle Izhmash
logo on scabbard only.
They look rather black, but when compared with Bulgy black bayonet, I can see that there's some plum hue in it.
I would describe them as very, every dark plum.

I just don't understand why anyone would feel obligated to explain to you what they choose to buy with their own money.

What kind of case is that, and what did you use to wrap the stock with? I like that!

I prefer black myself.  After all, "Evil Plum Rifle" just doesn't inspire the fear in the anti-gunners as "Evil Black Rifle" does.

I bought one of these from them. They are the real deal, and are definitely Plum and have the black spray paint on the ends of the sheath and bayo handle just like the AK74 plum mags have. I bought it to use with my Plum stocked SGL-21.

Wow, are those PSLs? Or .308 AKs?

They're built from Category 1 PSL kits, and special NoDak Spud receivers (originally meant for TGI).  We call them AK-54R, for obvious reasons.  They're incredible fun.

OP, you really should have just titled your thread, "Another Plum Pic Thread."

Since nobody here actually answered the op's question I will.

When Russia first made a poly stock set for their AK's they wanted them to be black, but when too much much black dye was used it cause some sort of problem like the plastic being too brittle or something.  They used less black dye and the plumb color was the result.  It was the original color they were before they figured out the right way to make black.

I thought the third post answered the question.

Does anyone have these for sale? Or do I just have to keep my eyes peeled on the gun sales sites? I'd be interested in one of these if they weren't priced crazy. I've always toyed with the idea of getting a PSL and converting it to pistol grip/regular shoulder stock.

I'd like to get one of these and put on a AK104 gas block/sight and SBR it

Some people just like the plum furniture. I wouldn't go out of my way to own it. I prefer wood, but some people just like purple on their AK.

Plum furniture was specific to a particular era in Russian history.  Collectors wanting a clone of a plum AK-74/AKS-74 are no different than the collector of a "Retro" style AR.   There are some that are happy with just triangle handguards and then there are serious collectors who go all out with era-correct parts and markings.
