tgi has isd bulgarian ak74's for $399 with free shipping to theakforum members.  isd makes the ssr85's which are considered very nice rifles.

these guns are manufactured in bulgaria using unissued parts on a true bulgarian receiver then 922'd here by tgi.  this is a super deal!

the bayonet lug ears have been removed for importation.  the gun uses a usa mag to get the rest of the way to 922 as it has the original stock.

by using a k-var shiny black us pistol grip ($20), k-var us mag floor plate ($19 for six), and a us 74 brake from arizona response systems ($37 shipped) you can get 922 to use polymer bulgarian mags.

What's up with not getting past the login page unless you register?  I registered there once, and it never was approved, since then I sometimes see folks promoting stuff here from there but I can't ever see.

Maybe a link to a picture would help some of us who aren't signed up on a lot of forums?

Does the akforum profit from sales off that site?

You'd think they would encourage folks to sign up by letting them see what's hidden within - like Arfcom.

Is this the same site that the ORF topic got locked over?

I think I understand - the discount is for akforum members, maybe I should try to signup there and support that site to get the discounts.  Where do I sign?

The AK Forum takes no money from the business's that make offers there. They are kept going only by the board owners and they take no paid advertising. "Its all about the Kalashnikov, not the money" has been their motto since they got started.

And why advertise all our good stuff over here? Geez! You're let'n in the riff raff. The deal was for AK Forum members only!

Business's that do business on that site have to have a pretty high reputation before they are allowed to have their own areas over there. Business that mess over members get looked at hard and fairly from what I see, and things get resolved very professionally IMO. Doesn't happen often though and from what I have seen over the years things usually get resolved quickly to everyone's satisfaction. The professional standards for everyone over there are very high IMO. It's not like many boards where you just have the cool guys yelling "SUCKS!!!" every other post and behaving like monkeys in trees tossing their poop around. Its the most professionally moderated gun board I have seen and is my favorite for that reason.

Amongst the gun boards I look at, I consider it the deep end of the pool.

There are parts of Arfcom I really like. The Hometown and Handgun areas especially. But I will say here that the incredibly uncivil behaviors I often see here would never be allowed to pass over there. Actualy it's kinda fun to watch the "screaming children" get kicked out over there from time to time if they can't shape up. Then I'll see them over here complaining about it!

I'd recomend the AK Forum to all AK enthusiasts. Register, check out their mission statement and rules and see if you can live within them. Or, "up" to them as the case may be. There is a huge depth of knowledge to be found over there.

Over the years I have learned much there and would match what I have built for myself against anything made by a custom builder. Just look at the Iron Wood Designs site sometime. All but two of the AKs they feature in their banners are mine. I'm very proud of the craftsmanship I was able to put into them. And frankly, most of what I have learned over the years, I learned on the AK Forum.

East Tenn. gun-maker, importer faces federal scrutiny
An East Tennessee gun-maker and importer is facing a federal investigation.

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) –– An East Tennessee gun-maker and importer is facing a federal investigation.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms has seized several small truckloads of materials –– including gun parts––from Tennessee Guns International, or T.G.I., of Blount County.

A TGI spokesperson will confirm only that federal agents took the materials as part of a routine audit required of all licensed gun importers, manufacturers, and re-sellers.

"TGI is cooperating fully," says sales manager Ryan Patrick.

TGI's website promotes the company as an importer and re-seller of surplus guns from formerly Communist countries.

According to crate labels, some material the ATF seized includes parts for AK-74 'assault rifles.'

AK 74's can't be sold "as-is" in the United States.

"They come in as parts and they have to be modified," says
Coal Creek Armory's Jonathan Pirkle, a West Knox County firearms dealer and manufacturer.

"Customs should have caught anything that wasn't allowed."

An ATF spokesman in Nashville will confirm only that the federal agency is examining the operations of Tennessee Guns International.
He would not speculate when the investigation might conclude.

Woops, sorry.

Having spent time on a few discussion boards since 1996, I've come to realize that most of them had two things in common.....advertising fees and membership fees. I've always seen conflict when a board has "paid" advertisers catering to a "paid" membership. It's nearly impossible to take care of the interests of both parties because there is an inherent conflict of interest. I became extremely frustrated with the whole process and wondered what it would take to have a place dedicated to the Kalashnikov, not the money. I figured the answer would be to start my own discussion board. I started thinking about the pros and cons, and the time required to develop and manage a board. After a good weekend of drinking good beer, I made a decision.

I decided to give it a go, and see if I could build a discussion board where the membership is "free" and the advertisers are nothing more than "guests" catering to a "free" membership. I looked at all the major boards to try and blend the best discussion areas into one forum. If you see something missing and believe it could add value to the board, make a suggestion in the "Forum Suggestion" area and I will do my best to make it happen.

I've tried to make the "Market Place" forum as simple as possible, with very few constraining rules. Follow the rules, obey the law, and help each other get the parts, weapons, etc. that they want to buy, trade, or sell.

The AK Forum Mission Statement:

"Provide a free discussion board where advertisers and members work together to promote the acquisition, assembly, and ownership of some of the finest Kalashnikov variants available on the market...where both parties understand it's about the Kalashnikov, not the money."

I have no idea whether The AK Forum will be successful or not. I do know I will provide the most I can to the membership at no cost whatsoever...forever. The day this board begins to cost me money, and it appears I would have to charge the membership to keep it running, then I'm done and I will sell it to the first person who wants it for $1.00

I will invite respectable vendors to advertise for free on The AK Forum, and they will do so as guests. If they begin to show questionable business practices and/or actions which are detrimental to the membership.....then they will be shown the door very quickly.

With the help of great friends and great moderators, we will make this a great board. Enjoy yourselves, frequent the forums, follow the rules, and have a great time.

The other ad is for a NEW Bulg Kit WITH ORIGINAL BARREL - not kosher due to the barrel ban UNLESS it is OLD.

Dang. I am "this close" to pulling the trigger on a Lancaster Rough Rider AK74 and this comes along.

I need a one word answer: Is this is a better value than the Lancaster at $499.

Buying one of these things is not the least complicated thing I've  ever done.

Thanks.

since the entire gun is imported it's ok.  no different than the wasrs that are imported from romania.  the barrel ban concerns parts kits only.

Does this mean that the magwells are milled out from single stack to double stack width after importation, like the WASR's?

These Bulgy rifle "Truck Guns" have nothing to do with TGI craftsmanship. These are BULGARIAN MADE receivers and parts. That is the predominant facter in most people buying these instead of the lancaster (as well as being around $80 cheaper after shipping).

I have one and it's my first AK.  I like and appreciate the simplicity. If you go into it with the knowledge and expectation that it's a 'truck gun' then you're ok. If you want to compare it to a really finished piece then there may be a let down.  For the $400 price, it's a good gun - free shipping for me. It came with a Pro Mag for 3 922R parts along with the 3 in the trigger group.

As stated by kncook earlier, the receiver and barrel are Bulgarian and that is partly the draw.  No other builders in the process other than the trigger group. my bolt carrier and bolt had been shot - for sure but the piston looked brand new.  Comsoline was prevalent.

The mags fit tight with no wobble. The furniture was bleh.  I tossed it and got new Arsenal/KVAR polymer NATO length stock.  I am getting an AR grip adapter to put a Magpul grip along with a Midwest Ind rail.  This allows me to run Bulgarian mags to be within the letter of compliance.

I shot the thing last week and loved the lack of recoil.  I have to say that it shot low right and will have to get an AK sight tool to zero the iron sights.
