After 3 years of collecting parts and waiting for my receiver to be made I finally got my milled Type 56 done. I started with a screw in type milled barrel with the spike bayonet attachment I picked up for $200 a few years ago. I collected a few various parts for about a year then contacted The Firing Line out in Oklahoma for a milled receiver. It took them a little over a year to get the project done, but I'm happy I finally got it back. Took it out and shot it this weekend. I ran 2 mags of Brown Bear and 2 mags of Wolf, both ran flawlessly.

I'm pretty happy with everything except the serial #, it was supposed to be stamped in and the same as my receiver stub. I guess I'll have to live with it. I want to wear down the finish on everything to give it the "battlefield pickup" look. I also need to find a good matching upper handguard.

Nice rifle.

I would toss it down the driveway a couple of times to get that "battlefield" look.

I use this stuff - CorrosionX It would take that layer of rust right off and protect it.

Yea, they must not have cleaned it up very well after blueing. I wiped it down with some Break-Free, but still need to tear it apart and give it a good cleaning.

Just think that single cloned Chinese Type-56 AK took them alittle over a year to complete the same thing only took the Chinese builders a few minutes to complete back in the day without all the hightech equipment we've got today.

Even have the Chinese spike bayonet on the front. Seriously, that thing is bad ass. Don't let any Vietnam vets see it. They've already seen too many of 'em. I have a post-ban MAK-90 (stamped) I'd love to do something similar with but don't have the patience and the stack of cash to get it all done. Plus, my receiver has 'S' and 'F' on it. Why do they do that? Like we don't know which one is 'Fire'?

Looks great, I'm with you on everything but the "I want to wear down the finish on everything to give it the "battlefield pickup" look" part, that just seems foolish to purposefully lower the value of a cool collectors piece.

I don't think a "battlefield pickup" look would do anything to lower the value of that rifle. It would have the coolest look that many would want but could never do to their own rifle. And the great thing about that look is, when you're sick of it just get it refinished.
