I wonder if that is because parts/kits are drying up and demand is actually increasing?  Yeah, economics at work...

Probally a little bit of both.  Parts kits are drying up.  Back in the day everybody and their brother sold Romy G kits for a $100 and those were the minty matching ones.  No idea what they are going for now but I'm sure they are more expensive than that.

Plus demand has to be a bit crazy esp on the evil type rifles.

It's because kits are totally drying up and demand is the highest ever seen.

$100 increase in reasonable.

I bought 3 lancasters at 499.00 a piece only a year ago.

ETA: holy fuck, 800.00! That's insane. I thought they were, like, 650.00?

Glad I got mine when I did. I wanted 1 more...not now though. I'll just get another WASR.

They're in the busines of making profit.  They also were not immune to seeing the writing on the wall and cashing-in on it.  The shortage of kits is certainly a factor but the increase is primarily because they can.

I couldn't believe the prices I was seeing for AK's at the gunshow on Tuesday, they went from $600 to $1200 for some of the rarer older models.

I ordered from Lancaster on Nov 7, 2008. It was quite busy and I think the owner is the person who ended up writing the order. He told me on that Friday my gun would be built in 18 days. He also said had I waited till Monday it would be a much longer wait. He did not mention pricing changes, my gun was $629 and jumped up around 100 soon thereafter. Time will tell how the 18 day wait turns out, but the price was honored at the 629 mark. So far so good.

$811.00 out the door from my local dealer on October 29th, 5 days before the election. Plenty of AK-47's everywhere then, no customers. Now, the exact reverse. Not one to be had.  Bill T.

I bought the same AK only with the matching wood pistol grip for around $550.00 shipped back in March of this year . I guess I'm very lucky that I ordered one when I did... Also, as far as 18 days to build her, back when I ordered my Russian Red I was told 3 to 4 weeks... I ended up waiting well over 4 months .

Boy, I sure am glad I picked up my Lancaster RR a few months ago.  It was $599 at the time.  I wouldn't have bought one at todays prices.  A $200 mark-up in 3 months

<insert sarcasm> Everyone must of thought there would be a gun ban over night.  This shit going on with these companies is a joke. Kits drying up or not, The prices are getting completely ridiculous to say the least. They can keep their guns at these prices.

I heard someone say that in 1973 when AR-15's listed for $234.95.

That "inflation calculator" may be accurate, but I can tell you it was a lot harder for me to acquire $235.00 back then when I was 21, than it is for me to put a grand together today!  Bill T.

I ordered a desert tan w/ black furniture from Lancaster on Nov. 4th.  I called and talked to Mike who is owner/sales manager yesterday the 18th and he said they were waiting on one piece of the furniture to complete my build.  At least another week...I hate being a patient person.  I got mine for the $699 price.  Which was more than most other Ak's were going for but everyone says their quality is top notch.  So I will wait.

But that's precisely the point.  Even after raising their prices, they don't have to "keep their guns".  They are selling just fine at the increased prices.
