Would you sell a couple 5.56 Arsenal's (U and FR) to offset finances of an AK 105 build with original Russian parts, an AKSU Krink with Russian parts, and a recently acquired Bulgarian with Russian parts AK74?

I have AR's, God bless their little hearts for trying so hard to be reliable but honestly grow tired of feeding them expensive ammo. Since I own AK's in the same caliber, I just use the ammo for each. Given this redundancy then perhaps it's best to focus some of the collection.

I would keep at least one 5.56 AK, probably the 'FR.

I don't know how much 5.45mm you have stashed away or for how many more years you plan to be active in shooting, but 5.45 just isn't going to be around forever and few of us are wealthy enough to actually stash a lifetime supply.

Just a thought.

5.56 can still be reloaded for close to what 5.45 surplus costs.

5.45 will be around as long as people will buy it. You can buy brand new Wolf production for $150/1000

Go for the builds. The only 5.56 AR that does it for me is the Yugo underfolder M95?

To fund a 105 and Krink, Yes. If you have an arsenal krink 5.56 AK I'd keep that. But other wise go for it.

I'd keep a 5.56 too.

5.45 will die if there is ever an import ban. I expect when surplus dies, Wolf prices will go up as well.

This fear is what's keeping me from buying a Tantal.

What russian parts were you able to obtain for your 105? Those are very hard to obtain...

Second, what russian parts are you getting/have you obtained for your aksu build? The furniture is fairly easy to come by, but anything else....hmmm. There is a "russian" trunion and barrel assembly on gunbroker that is almost certainly fake, there's a whole thread going about it on theakforum.net.

If you can get legitimate russian parts for an ak 105 build, or an aksu-74 build, I'd say wholeheartedly go for it. The key word being LEGITIMATE. There are some clever fakes floating around. Join the akforum.net if you haven't already. Sell all but your favorite AR. The AR rifles can be rebought later (hopefully).

I have AKs in 3 different calibers, 5 in 7.62, 1 in 5.45 (always on the lookout for another) And a 106 FR. I guess the 5.56 is more or less just part of the collection , although I have 2 ARs I find myself shooting the x39s most of the time. My fave is the PTR91, just a big heavy powerful rifle, thats simple like the AKs just pricey to feed.

I would definately keep what you have, who knows what will happen in the future. Hopefully when we win in Iraq the 5.56 will affordable again.

Don't you already have a Tula Krink from Ted Marshall? Skip the AKSU and hold onto the 106U.

Both AK 105 and AKSU ended up with 95% Russian parts, except the barrels which likely were originally Russian anyway.

Are you talking about this barreled assembly? It's a fake trunnion but the barreled action being Bulgarian in that caliber is likely Russian anyway.

First off gentlemen, I will be posting pictures in a few months of a very nice collection of rare Russian birds. However I want to waite till all clear before doing so.

I guess I just wanted some extra feedback. To be quite honest I want about 40K min in 5.45 if I am going to go this route. To much invested in the 5.45 rifles to not have a lifetime of ammo. Pretty much going to mortgage all the firearms that I have doubles of and then sell off some revolvers.

Yes but the wife is driving a shitty cary and I have a rather expensive gun collection. Obviously my priorities are out of order- course the car would be a depreciating asset and she has job to buy her own car.

No because the 106FR is a bastardized AKM pattern while 5.45 is obviously 74 pattern. It might work but likely it will end up being a trunnion replacement anyway.

I have traded and sold off a 5.56 upper, a complete lower, half of my 5.56 ammo and all my mags (easily replaced). I have the other half of my ammo ready to move this weekend along with 4 stripped lowers. I did keep one complete lower that I can later add any caliber of upper of my choosing. (5.56, 5.45 etc...)

I have obtained a WASR 2 to start and will with the help of a member here, be building a Tantal. I already have 1 crate of Russian and will be picking up a crate of Bulgarian this weekend. More ammo will be added. I consolidated and moved to this caliber because of cost factor. I own one 9mm handgun and I have my CWL. For ultimate home defense I have a 18" Remington 12 gauge and to round it off 5,000+ rounds of 22 with 2 rifles and a Ruger 10-22 to be added. This is where I will remain. AMMO, AMMO, AMMO,

P.S. Gotta take care of the wife! Remember, half of the money and all of the xxxxx

40,000 rounds would be roughly $4,500 shipped(surplus). Hell that's really not too bad spread over a little bit of time. Not even 19 crates!

Not sure if it is enough these days. Honestly though it seems the minimum. Figure 1000 a year until I'm 70?
