Back home (Pakistan), the 7.62 cartridge is illegal for civilian use, so in order to obtain an AK legally, all 7.62 AKs are changed to accept the german 44 calibre cartridge( the bore is slightly expanded to accept the 44 caliber round). In other words, these AKs accept 7.62 and 7.92 x 33 mm "Kurz" ammunition. Anything like that in the U.S?

Khan - are these modifications made by local gunsmiths or are they done at a commercial operation?
Where does your 7.92x33mm Kurz ammo come from - yugoslavia/serbia?

Well I did mention that after making the barrel slightly larger (how, i really don't know, maybe a rod like tool is run through the barrel) but yea i've shot both types of ammo through my gun so it can't be a misunderstanding.

I beleive you misunderstand. There's no way a gun could take both cartridges. The 7.92 has a much larger cartridge base and a different shape, in addition to there being .015" difference in bore size.

Maybe with a change of barrel and bolt, but there's no way one gun without modifications of any type can fire both.

No one that I know of makes a 7.92x33mm AK in the US.

Local gunsmiths do it since the 7.62 cartridge is illegal for civilian use. The 7.92 Kurz is locally made but I've come across german surplus.

If you fired a 7.62mm bullet down a 7.92mm bore it would bounce around in the barrel and accuracy would be horrible. That's if you didn't have any issues with the case not seating properly in the bore.

I suppose I'll have to film or photograph the "spectacle" since most ppl have unheard of this.

I didn't know 7.62x39mm was illegal for civilians to own in Pakistan.
I'm not suprised though - does this also apply to any other calibers?

Yes the 7.62 is "illegal" and as of 1999 the 5.45 cartridge is also banned. Civilians can own in all calibers except the two mentioned. As I said the AK47 is modified to take .44 bore ammunition which allows you to obtain a license.

Sounds like you mean 8mm Kurtz.
I have 2 pieces in my cartridge collection, not worth the effort to look for it as Wifey has commandeered the Man Room for gift wrapping.

Sounds tantamount to a saturday night special ban (prevent the masses from legally owning the most easy to acquire weapons).

One of these days I'd love to visit a gunshop in Peshawar.

Haha yeah Peshawar, a sane man would never buy a firearm from peshawar unless you want your hands blown off. Very very poor quality.

I guess you could open the bore and cut a weird chamber and get both to somehow go off. I don't know how though as the shoulder on the kurz round is way back from the AK and you couldn't get the AK round to stop on the bore either. The case head and extractor grove are about the same. But as they are neither will fit in the others chamber.

More likely if your assertion is true, is that the bores where opened up to 8mm and the rounds were made from AK cases.
