Some of you guys may remember I posted these pics of the nicest carved Serbian Yugo I had ever seen in a surplus kit. One of the members got the writing translated for me.
I finally got around to mounting the furniture on a rifle tonite. Not often that I get to work on a project for myself. Here are a few pics of the stock from the old post. The lower handguard says: "No fate but what we make for ourselvews"  These are a guys and a girls name. In English phonetics: Lieyza and Slaja   The letter is a "z" probably the first letter in the guys name.   The lower handguard says: "No fate but what we make for ourselvews"  The box is the guys name; Eelva; GRBA is a nickname: Gerba (means "humpback")  The ancient Serbian Crest which I am told symbolizes "Divided the Serbs cannot stand"  I wanted the AK to look representative of a rifle that had been in that conflict and not a safe queen so I took a Century fixed stock AK and replaced as many metal parts as was practical from surplus kit and then distressed the finish on what was left overs. I did the aging with gray Scotch Brite pads and a fiber wheel. I then mounted up the wood. I also scrounged thru the parts kits for a fairly ugly but serviceable Yugo AK magazine and a sling. That looks awesome! I love those Yugo fixed stock AKs. I need to find a kit and build one up. I don't know the first damned thing about it, but it'd sure be a helluva lot of fun!

lol you can tell they're in The Peoples Republic of Kalifornia in that top pic...she had to crack the weapon open to reload
 Thats a great looking rifle you've got there. There's just something really appealing about beat up and used looking rifles that I like, new just looks to clean and pretty and almost fake. Plus with that wood, you're giving it the respect it deserves. |

Looks really good. I'm not often a fan of the battlefield / distressed look but with the wood it just seems right. The only thing I would probably do if it were mine would be to take a chunk of metal / brick and hit the metal in a couple places to have some (minor) dents, dings, and scratches to make it look a little less polished. But that's me, ya know?

I've never seen wood that has been so personalized. It makes me wonder happened to the man who owned it. It looks like he took pride in his weapon, so I can't see him giving it up by choice!

That looks great Man! Some of the "better" carved up Yugo's were well worth preserving. Don't ever get rid of that one. It has history to it!
Here's my own safe queen. "Sara" It started as a $99 kit from CFS back when they had them. Bore was great too. This soldier must have loved this rifle. She's my resident safe queen now.    Edit to add. I finally got a dust cover release for her. And you can get the proper canvas Yugo slings from APEX. That one you have is a Romy leather one. |

Beautiful Job Denny, its easy to get immersed in the History of a personalized weapon from a volitaile region. These Serb AKs were used by the Serb Militia's and saw use in some very dark times.
Here's a pic of the kit I started out with, matching numbers with a unique hand carved pistol grip. Built on a DCI reciever, distressed and fitted with a standard pistol grip.

Well the one stock had 1995 carved in it.
 What I think is interesting is that it is a Serbian stock, but that the letters aren't cyrillic. As I understand, Serbia usually uses the cyrillic alphabet and the western part of former Yugoslavia (Croatia) uses the Roman aplhabet.Overall everything is very interesting and a rare piece of history. All of you please hold onto these and pass on any knowledge that you have of them to future generations. |

I lucked out when I got mine...paid $72 for my kit...from CFS....awhile ago though.
Sold one fixed stock kit for $265 shipped...build the other up.. oh and check out my UF one I got in...its pretty pimp The word on the handguard means "Princess", derived from Russian also has a very feint peace symbol on it which I pointed out. whats approx value of this? All matching kit, but recoil rod isnt #'d, nor is top cover if I recall...    |

I called CFS during their $79 sale. They had just found "Sara" and were all looking at it and talking about it. I told them I'd love to rebuild it. I paid a $20 hand pick fee for it. $99 kit! Just happened to call at just the right time. Kind of like hitting the lottery. Back then the kits were a real hit or miss thing. You never knew what you'd get. I got some OK ones, I got Sara and I got one really horrible one. It all worked out. They were cheap kits. I didn't mind rebarreling them if I had to. Another way to get wood like this is to contact folks on boards who post pics of it. I've already had two folks offer me up to $400 just for the stock set from Sara! Nice tries, but I passed. I served over there in our Navy during that conflict. Three different cruises. So this is a keepsake of my service. |

Denny- real quick- in the second pick where you show the two names, you have them reversed. Slaja is the name that appears first. It all together might be his first and last name.
You show the bottom of the handguard that looks like a "3"- that's the same "z" as the first letter of the first name. I like the "no fate" part. Either that's a common old saying or they truly were T2 fans. There are all sorts of references to this phrase on the internet but the earliest is T2. I can't find anything earlier than that. |

nooneimportant Team Member The writing is from a Bosnian Serb. In the Box is the name of a village in Bosnia, "Bileca" then "15X" the three letters next I am still trying to figure out. it is apparently the abbreviation for something. The rest of the translation looks right. Thats a valuable piece of information, there are alot of haunted forests in the area around Bileca from that time period. |

Wow, that's nice. I would have lightly sanded it and put new varnish on it w/clear coat to preserve it and used it on a new-looking AK, but that's nice too.

Was with 1/1 Cav in Bosnia in '96 and '98. I was told the the two fingers stick up was a V for VICTORY and the thumb stick out was for SERBIA, so it stood for SERBIA VICTORY. Was given this sign and alot of middle fingers the time I was there.

Yes,this is the M67, I've had it for several years. The Yugoslavian M67 is some of the best surplus that hit this Country, I don't mind it being corrosive. I use Hoppes #9 for cleaning and have never had a problem. |

They very easily could be in reference to T2. One of my Yugos had Beverly Hills 90210 stickers all over it. |
