What brand and caliber do you recommend?

Yugo?
Bulgarian?
Hungarian?
762?
223...?

I'm thinking of 762x39

EDIT
I get 223, 9, 40 and 45 cal free
reload 308 and will have to buy 762 x 39

Price under 1000

Arsenal in 7.62

The prices people are asking for 223 ammo is pure ass rape.

Vector U/F  Polish in 7.62x39.   Great looking rifle, a bit less expensive than the Arsenal and 5 yr warranty.   Just fantastic customer service as well.

The Yugo is hard to beat.  You can fin them on the EE for $450-$500.  That is where I bought mine.

I have a Lancaster built Polish Underfolder purchased directly from them in 7.62. Excellent fit and finish, shoots very well, no problems. I would buy another in a heartbeat. Hope this helps.

why are Chinese underfolders so expensive?

I would imagine that they are so expensive because no more will ever be imported into this country, ever.

Another thumbs up to Vector UF.  I went to the gun show expecting to get a Yugo UF, but once I laid my eyes on the Vector I just had to have it.  Really nice looking gun and like everyone else says, great customer service along with a 5 year warranty.

When I first got my gun it would misfire like crazy.  So I sent it back to them, they fixed it (free of charge because of warranty), and now it works like a charm.  It was definitely worth the extra money to go Vector.

Quoted:
Find a pre 1994 Chicom (Polytech or Norinco) in 7.62x39 and don't look back.
