Not good, as the dust cover is not a stable platform. Your zero may change from shot-to-shot. Not a huge deal if you are using a red dot site at CQB ranges, but horrid for use with a scope. |

If you don't want to or cannot use a side mount, go for one that spans over the receiver cover.
