I picked this up at a gunshow last weekend, but I don't know what kind it is. It was in a sealed plastic bag and covered with cosmoline I figure it is Romanian but I am unsure.

Judging by the way the weld marks look and the finish, i'd guess it was Romanian.  Russian drums are either black enamel or parkerized..ive never seen a blued one and this one looks blued.. Romanians also have a slightly different looking spot welds than the Russian ones.  Look for a star in shield stamped into the metal on the rim of the main body near the feed tower, if it has one, its Russian.

It's got no markings. Just a letter and 3 numbers on the loading leaver.

Romanian then...  Looks to be brand new.  For $50 you got an awesome deal.

Yes, I figured I did. It was in a sealed plastic bag and had some brown paper on each side. The guy I bought it from said a guy came into his store and had 2 of these and a box of m1a mags he traded for a rifle. He was keeping one and getting rid of the other.
