[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Drum magazine vs. 2-40 round magazines.

Okay, here's a question for ya'll.

A drum magazine costs about $80.00 and holds 75 rounds. two 40 round magazines hold 80 rounds, and cost $30.00.

Other than the "cool" factor, is there any real reason to buy a drum mag when for the same money you could buy enough magazines to hold 200 rounds of ammo. I mean, what are we talking about, a few seconds to change out one mag and still have 5 more rounds? HOw hard is it to get the drum out of the gun and put a new one (ANY magazine) back in it?

Just some thoughts on my search for an EOTWAWKI gun.

Neither... carry a butt load of 30 rounders...

but, again, thats a personal opinion...

Weight and bulk wise you could carry 3 bulgarian or polish 30rd mags per one 75rd drum.

40s vs. DRUM. I would go with the drum.

DRUM vs. 30's- I would go with the ~~drum~~ 30.

Luckily I have some of all of em. (20s as well)

Bastiat has the absolut correct answer, however it does look cool! Just got back from my annual prarie doggin trip and came along this very problem while sneaking over hills. the 2 40's were way to tall to use, and even with the bipod it's very hard to shoot level when you are slanting up hill. I found that with the drum i could use it as a rest and still get some good shots off while remaining low to the ground instead of a foot off the ground. if you can afford either, take the drum.

4 20rnd Hungarian tanker mags=$20-25 (Tapco). Less $$$$ & a lower prone. Handier size mag overall, ~ the same size as AR15 30rnd mags. Much easier to carry a ton of the 20rnd mags than it is the drum.

I've got em' all, 20's, 30's ,40's, both steel & polys, & 75 drums. They all work great. The best part is the reaction you get from the other shooters near you at the range. The 20's & 30's don't get much notice. The 40's get an eyebrow raised in your direction. The drums get eyes wide open, & a stutter or two from a gaping mouth. I guess I'm saying, get them all, they all have their place in this game we play.

a good drum u can open the side and load it in about 1/2 the time it would take u to load 1 40rd clip
