If you're going for looks, get the black Bulgarian mags. I go for quantity, East German Bakelites @ $5 each!

I agree. For looks, I also like the Brown AK74 mags, but at times they are hard to find.
If you want to dress up your Red-ish color E.German mags, you can sand them and put a few coats of any color plactic model paint. It works really well.

I like the black Bulgarian mags and the East German bakelites.  I bought a bunch of the bakelites when they were $5 each and I also bought a bunch of the Bulgarians when they were $10 each.  The Bulgarian mags look great if you have a black synthetic stock installed on your rifle.  The E-German mags look good if you have a wood stock installed.  I would get some of both.

Function and quality wise, they're the same wessono.

Get whichever matches your persona. If you have a wood set, a bakelite E German is probably the better way to go. If you're all black with a black polymer stock set, I would definitely prefer Bulgarian black polymer mags.

m-4 are you saying you can sand down  bakelite mags and paint them a different color ie black or od green with  plastic modle paint? have you seen any mags done like this?
thanks

I have seen it. Just a light sand/bead blast then paint. Some bake orange will show where the mag fits the receiver, but not when it is in the gun.

Yup I have done it. I mean its not going to be 100% scratch resistant. I would say with 3 coats its about 90% scratch resistant. But still, you want to have a good looking mag you probably wont be beating the hell out of it any how.

My favorite color is the "Flat Olive" or olive drab color paint that Testors makes. If I had a digital camrea I would take some pics for you. But I am sorry I dont.

OK, what about a FSE Krinkov-style fixed skeleton stock?  I vote for the black Bulgarian mags as the superior fashion accessories for this stock
