The local gunshop has 500 rounds of 7.62 x 39, 123 gr. with 22 and 80 on headstamp.  Comes in 20/box.  Boxes have "Made in Germany" on them.  Anyone know what this ammo is?  He wants $75 for it.  Is that good, bad, or ugly?

Thanks.

22-80 = Romanian-1980
East Germany did a lot of military supplies trading with the other Warsaw Pact countires so this is how Romanian ammo ended up in East Germany. When West and East Germany reuntified into one country in 1991 all East German military supplies became surplus as West Germany was a NATO member. Century Arms imported 15 million rounds of 7.62x39mm steel core ammo from Germany in 1992.
In Feb,1994 the BATF reclassified 7.62x39mm ammo with steel core bullets as armor piercing ammo. They banned the import and sales by FFL holders of it to anyone except govt. and law enforcement agencies. Millions of rounds of East German 7.62x39mm ammo was remanufactured by having the steel core bullets swapped for lead core bullets and packed in 20rd boxes/1000rds per case. This ammo was imported by Century Arms late in 1994. All of the ammo from Germany no matter which country it was originally from has corrosive primers.

At $75 per 500rds it is not a good deal as you can get Russian ammo for $25 less per 500rds and it is non corrosive.
