Barnual is the best 5.45mm available. Silver Bear 5.45mm is made by Barnual.
It just doesn't have the lacquer coating on the cases, but instead has a zinc plating on the cases.
It does have the airspace too. Barnaul is more accurate than Wolf 5.45mm also.

Dynamit Nobel 5.45 60grn HP is the best availible ammo for this caliber. It is more expensive and somewhat "unavailible" but it is the most accurate and effective ammo that exists for this caliber. You can aquire this ammo from impactguns.com I have also had great luck with Bulgarian 70 grn FMJ rounds, which are very close to being a "milspec" round and I have found them to be superior to many other 5.45 rounds. For general AK shooting, Wolf, Siver Bear/Barnaul or others should be more than sufficient. With the exception of the AA Ghengis or some high dollar 74 clones many AKs in this caliber aren't accurate enough to notice any real difference in performance to make any extra expenditure worth while. The Dynamit Nobel rounds are the only "match grade" rounds availible for this caliber.

About 1-2 rounds in each 20 rd box of wolf has some brass( bi-metal jeacket material) shaved off and stuck to the edge of the case where the bullet was pushed in....
Honestly it has shot well for me, and was more accurate than the barnaul SP.

The only time my Krinkov ever jamed was with those short barnaul SP rounds.
In order of my personal experience best to worst.

Best
Barnaul FMJ
Wolf FMJ
Barnaul HP
Barnaul SP
Worst

Thinking about getting a Bulgy '74, so I've been looking into ammo availibility/choices/etc.  I tried finding it at Aim Surplus with no luck.  Am I missing something?
