It is always a good thing to check the headspace on anything you get.

Good advice!!  Maybe there's a build party in your area that you can drop by on and use the gauges instead of buying a set.  Local Smiths may do the check for you for free as well.

If headspace is actually bad, you must remove the barrel pin and move the barrel 'in' or 'out' depending on the gauge reading.

..and if you build that kit the right way?  You WILL be removing the barrel from the Front Trunion :)

Just a little FYI.  You can make your own headspace guages if you don't want to buy them.  The only catch is they can't be used more than once or twice, but they are easy to make so it doesn't matter.  If you pull the bullets and powder on a couple of live rounts w/o damaging or deforming the case then you have a "GO GUAGE" and the starting of a "NO GO GUAGE".  To make a NO GO, you need to take one of the live rounds that you pulled the bullet on and red loctite a small piece of .005" shimstock (small enough to be smaller than the rim of the case so it fits in the bolt face) to the back of it, that is then your "NO GO"  If the bolt closes on the "GO" and not the "NO GO"  then you are good to go.  If you are planning to do more than 1 build or so, I would invest the small amount of money and buy a real set of headspace guages.  This is just a quick and dirty to check if things are safe or not.
