Co-worker of mine with a CC&R said that he got his new book of BATF regs, and in it is a rule that all imported kit guns must be cut across the front trunnion now. This is for ALL imported kits, not just AK's.
He said he'll bring it in tmw.

If this is true, then this may be the end of cheap homebuilts, or even the end of homebuilts from imports, period.

No worries if thats true. Global is making trunnions.

Most kits come cut across the front of trunnion. They cut the receiver across in front of the trunnion and in a couple other places.

Old news, It would be hell trying to cut thru the receiver and the barrel anyway.

They will keep cutting them the same way, right behind the trunion.

Or they will remove the barrel.

Dont worry the sky is not falling.

My new ATF book shows cuts for only 4 firearms. The ATF wanted to show clearly to the importers where to torch cut the Browning 1919, Sten,FN FAL and H&K G3. The cuts do go through the chamber area of the barrel.

This rumor started a couple years ago when those diagrams first showed up. The drawings have little to do with importation of kits. They describe the cuts needed to destroy a receiver if the receiver parts are to be sold. Most kits don't include all of the receiver parts, so it is a moot point.

www.atf.gov/pub/fire-explo_pub/2005/p53004/rulings.pdf

The diagrams are near the end of the document. Here's a sample quote:

An ATF-approved method of destruction
for the Browning M1919
type machinegun will result in the
severed portions of the receiver
being importable for unrestricted
commercial sale.

It is specifically refering to the approved method of destruction so that the receiver parts may be sold.
