FWIW, last Friday I ordered a $109 Yugo stamped receiver, fixed stock kit from Pam at Centerfire. My first AK kit ever. These are advertised simply as "brown bore." Pam estimated the metal finish at 50-75% on most of these. Received it here in Florida yesterday, and here's my observations: Wood is very, very good - nice color and grain, and only a couple of very minor handling / storage marks. Metal finish was on the high side of the stated range. Some parts still have a nice plum patina, only a couple of very, very minor and inconspicuous rust spots that will probably come off without much work. The slant muzzle brake was the roughest piece on the gun, and I can live with it (or replace it.) ALL matching numbers - that was cool. The range numbers on the flip up grenade sight are still painted white, and the night sights flip up and lock solidly and all 3 dots still have their paint (though have no glow left.) Bore was packed with crud, and I was a little bummed at first. However, several patches soaked in laquer thinner with hot water rinses later, I saw rifling. (Chunks of cosmo and crud came out in the rinse.) Used foaming bore cleaner and a brass brush, looked a little better. Going to hit her again a couple times tonight, and I expect it will improve more. Passes the bullet test. I'm happy, and can't wait to get my DCI receiver and get to work.
