Thanks,
Yea my 1st Romy I built (3 weeks ago) was a PITA to get the pin out.
This one was much easier with my 12 ton press($133 at Harbor frieght)
I had a guy at work help me get the pin out, so I figure I will return the favor.
If he hit it from both sides I may have to drill it, I have a 12 ton press that popped my pin out with no issues. I will oil it up and drop it in the freezer overnite.
If she won't pop I will take it to our Maint shop during lunch and drill the pin out.
As you see in the pics my press is in the den and when the pin popped(sounded like a 22) it scared the crap outta my wife.
I used a mixure my friend mixed his AKs, Birchwood Casey Walnut water based stain mixed with 50-50 water and Rit Scarlet dye.
Make sure you get the water base stain as the powder rit dye wont dissolve in a oil base stain.
Dont ask me how I know
After staining it I used Birchwood Casey tru oil applied with my fingers(my friend showed me this also) and let it dry 3+ hours.
After it was dry I hit it with 0000 steel wool and then polished it with a towel.
I repeated this process 5 times before I was happy.
Make sure all of the old Romy stain is gone or the stain wont take.

did you hammer from one or both sides?? belive me I have been in your shoes in building my 2 Romy's.
I have a 12 ton press so like I said if its not to bad I can pop it out.
Just send it to me with a return shipping label. Its the least I can do to help out a new AK builder.

Quoted: I figured I could still drill it out, but I dont have a starting point now. I'm also without a drill press and my cordless can only handle so much plus all the bits i have broken so far. I think I got into something I shouldn't have. $$$$$

Totally OT, but Freefall what did you do to refinish the AK stocks on the left. That reddish brown is just gorgeous!
