I have used a C clamp to compress the spring giving enough space to remove the site.

Here's what I did.
I lifted the sight a bit (~30 degrees) to expose the front lip of the spring. I pressed down hard on that lip of the spring with a small steel pin punch. Then I was able to lower the front of the sight and pull it aft through the grooves to remove it. Piece of cake! |

Thanks for the ideas. Sidecarnutz' method worked fine for my Romanian barrel, but I had to put the punch in my shop press to push it down enough to get it out of my AMD-65 Barrel.
