Trying to get some feedback on welding the rear of a hunter receiver to match a standard AK so the ACE cut the tang adapter can be mounted for a folder. Seems possible......right?

might be....anything's possible if you know what youre doing

i just wouldnt want to mess up that nice norinco hunter plus then youve got the issue of dealing with no pistol grip without shifting the trigger guard and mag catch around, and after you do all that seems like youd just be better off getting a stander AKM reciever

I've got standard AK's I'm just bored with the hunter. Trigger gaurd and pistol grip will be similar to a Saiga conversion.
The hunters inside dimensions at the rear are a little smaller than a standard receiver so I'll have to thin the adapter a little but I think it will work.

i would pull the mag catch install a standard tg pg
weld the back shut and install an underfolder on it

I'll look into that as an option. Still would have to add metal to make room for folding mechanism.

Update!

Removed trigger guard and mag catch and test fit Romy unit. Perfect alignment on two of the trigger guard holes and the mag catch works great without the selector stop.

Next I'll get the pistol grip hole set and then I'll try to figure out the rear sight block or lack there of so I can use standard handgaurds.

Any input is appreciated.

I am going to do the same thing with my hunter. the rear part of the stamped receiver can be welded on with then rear trunnion. someone had one for sale on the EE not to long ago . I am wondering if a standard Romy barrel will press into this receiver. Please post pics as you go along,I'll be starting next week and I will also post pics. My goal is to just make a funky milled standard AK  not a galil or Valmet clone. I'm glad I'm not the only one out there chopping things up. this is my yugo SKS I just modified...

I'll get some pics up today.

The Romy barrel diameter at the chamber is larger I believe than the hunter. I'm hoping a rear sight block can be WECSOG'd on the hunter.

O.K here are some pic's of my progress.

So far just the trigger gaurd and mag catch. I'm assuming the smaller barrel diameter on the hunter vs the Romy is because of milled vs stamped receiver thickness..........right?

Quite a few pic's.  Mods: feel free to edit if too large.

Thanks for the pics. I am going to start with the rear trunnion weld job first, I'll post pics as I go. The photo of the Romy/Hunter barrels clearly show the diameter difference. by the photo of your hunter barrel you have the same one I do. Type II with the fixed fold down rear sight. I'll be starting next week...

Is there enough room for a folder, and if so, weld it up "as is" or add material to look like standard AK rear end?

Rear folders I've seen are reasonably priced so this could be an option. I just need to find a michinist.
