I just got the latest edition of Shotgun News and there is an article on how to build an AK rifle, and references build an AK pistol.

You can see the cover at this link with the reference to the article.

The man in the SGN uses a cylindrical bucking bar, slightly less in diameter than a barrel.

However, he puts the rivets in backwards, with the heads on the inside, and merely peens them
over on the outside.  Quick and dirty, and it won't win any beauty contests.

And how come the muzzle brake on the AK-74 is all cock-eyed in the finished picture?

It's a toss-up. Some do, some don't. Ours used to, but I think that the soccer mommies must have
raised a stink or something about those evil guns, or something.

I haven't seen a copy there in a long time, and the closest to gun related magazines that I've seen
lately is "Outdoor Life."

Picked up a copy today, as a noob I thought it was decent. Would have been really nice to read on day one. He explained 922 and requirements for pistols or rifles.  I didn't know that pistols were an exception to 922. That makes them cheaper than I thought, I guess thats a third I'll have to do.

The only rivets done backwards were the front trunnion and he must have used the homeade punch thing they show in a side note. If I hadn't read it I never would have noticed in the pics.

what cockeyed muzzlebrake? The final pic is B&W and you can't even see the end but if you're talking about the color pic, the whole rifle is angled, not just the brake.

What do you meen backwards? How are you supposed to do it?

And what's wrong with useing the barrel as bucking bar?

I've never used rivets, but I'm wanting to do a build that way soon.
