stuff you need
krylon bbq paint  (some others work some dont and wipe right off)
rubber gloves
s hook
2 big cans brake cleaner (3 small)
use of the oven (wait till the wife is gone)

compleatly disassemble rifle
hang the parts and hose them down with brake cleaner use it all even if you think its clean after 1/2 can
let it dry 15 min useing rubber gloves to keep oils off parts move them to the oven
heat them at 250 for 30 min
remove from oven with clean dry rag and hang it to be painted (still hot )
apply a nice thick coat over hot rifle
let it dry about 15 min
then back to the oven
set temp to 425 and cook hour and 15 min then check it if its still smoking keep cooking till it stops
when its done let it cool totaly
put your rifle back together and your done

How does this stand up to brake cleaner?

if you get some brake cleaner on it and wipe it off your fine
if you hose it down and let it sit it will remove it
but if you hose down your car hood with brake cleaner it will remove the paint from that also

Maybe I'll do the Tantal your way.  Or Alumahyde.  Have you messed with Alumahyde?
As it is, I'll leave the Romy for a while.  If it starts coming off badly I'll redo it.

yep ive tryed alumahyde its gives you about the same finish
and only costs 15x more its got a kool name tho

What do you do about the keeping paint out of the barrel from both ends?

this isnt a smartass answer
i dont spray into the barrel lol
when the rifle is hot the paint sticks the second it touchs it (alot less overspray )
and if any gets into the barrel it will be gone the first time you pull the trigger
paint dosnt really stick to the hard chrome

o also just thought i would add
you can also use the paint and a torch to make a finish almost exactly like the finish on a bulgi
heat a small spot up with the torch spray on the paint and torch it befor it has a chance to dry
it will bubble alittle and leave a textured finish almost exactly like a bulgi

candyman, Have you ever tried the duplicolor 1200 deg. ceramic header paint ??

I have used Alumahyde2, baking lacquer, BBQ paint,and the Dupli color 1200 degree. Alumahyde is the toughest followed by the Dupli Color 1200. The baking lacuer was good but brittle. The BBQ paint was the worst.

I put a little wad of steel wool in the end of the barrel.  

Rustoleum #7290 textured black is an exact match for the bulgy IF you hold the can a bit closer to the surface than you normally would.

And when your done shooting and start to clean the gun with some powder solvent , that BBQ paint that looked so good will come right off...  dont waste your time with it.. if you want to paint
your build use something like Aluminhyd II  it a epoxie based paint that is hard and tough

The 1200 degree paint sucks too. It looks beautiful. It will last a lifetime or until you clean your rifle, whichever comes first. Don't waste $4.
