good idea? A local state supplier has them at a decent price.

Never built an AK before, just bought them and built ARs.

Was trying to find M70 threads and noticed they always have RPK receivers (if that's what they're called).

Will a basic stamped or milled receiver not work with these?

Mark,
You will either have to buy an RPK type blank from coldsteel or a 100% from greenlight arms. Some of the first batch came through with standard trunnions, but not very many.

so basically these kits are so much cheaper because they're not in high demand, due to the difficulty of finding a receiver to build one?

They have non chrome lined bores, so combined with corrosive ammo, are pitted and dark.
