I use cork or rubber plugs which are available at most hardware stores.

ok thats what I was thinkin. what no one else parks a rifle anymore? everyone has to have the uber cool camo jobs

Stick toothpicks in the gas port also.

I've parked many rifles, and have watched even more be parked. Never saw anyone worry about it...Chrome won't take the park, and I've heard the first couple bullets will de-park the bore of a steel barrel. YMMV, but that's my experience and observations.
