they did you a favor...M-Pro7 Gun Oil LPX for the win

but I do have some of those wipes that I keep in a plastic bag for those rainy days...

Oh for sure there are thicker, better performing oils, but for exterior wipe downs they were tough to beat. Plus I am as nostalgic for the smell of rem oil as I am for Hoppes no. 9. I suspect others will be too and not realize it for some time lol. I was in a gun store and instantly smelled that somebody had sprayed it recently.

A gun I worked with turned me on Some years ago to Birchwood Casey Barricade.
He did civil war renactments and said their guns were out in all sorts of weather.
I don't use this as a lube, but I spray it on the outside of all my guns and then wipe the excess off with a clean soft rag.
Rust hasn't been a issue at all.
I think they also make wipes too.

I forgot about barricade. They make wipes too. Good call.

Still wondering  if anybody knows if rem oil is gone for good though.

I'd gladly say goodbye to the Rem-oil wipes if it meant Hoppe's brought back their field wipes.

Birchwood casey has a similar product in a wipe.

Barricade is an excellent product, been using it for years....it had another name before Barricade, Sheath....used to buy it in the tall cans that looked like lighter fluid cans

Is Remington out of business? Or just taking a break from "tactical" firearms? I doubt they would drop Remoil, but yes there are much betrer products availible.

They had issues for years.
They kinda like a Kmart or JCPenney or Sears.

The market moved too fast for them to adjust their biz model.

It happens. When "capital management" firms have their hands in stuff..... etc.

RemOil wipes are too wet in my opinion.

For rust prevention on exterior surfaces I’ve used this product for over 35 years. Long lasting and refillable.

For a company selling gun, ammunition, gun accessories, reloading components, etc. to go bankrupt in the middle of one of the greatest frenzies of gun buying (really from post 9/11 to today) should tell you they were mismanaged.  The fact that many of the products they put out were substandard if not total garbage didn't help either.  Then would start buying up companies making good products & run them into the ground as well.  Good riddance IMO.  Let someone who knows at least a little about firearms & hopefully a lot of passion for them takes charge of the pieces & builds up a company making good firearms, ammo, etc. at reasonable prices.

Rusteprufe is the bomb.

Also, I picked up a small bottle of rem oil last night at Dunhams. Was surprised to see it on the shelf.

I have used Rem Oil spray as a lubricant/protector (not as a cleaner) for years and like it. Very handy and does a good job.
Now, I am running out and have been searching - some available on Amazon but at ridiculous price.

What is Rem Oil Pro? Seems Midway may be getting some.

Also, what is the better direct substitute for Rem Oil Spray type (lubricant/protector only, not a cleaner)?

Any CLP is equal or better.

Break Free LP is vastly superior.

The only thing I ever found REM oil good for is lubing the hinges on folding knives. Oh well.

Ordered some Break Free - thanks.

Update: My Break Free came in. Also bought some of their dispenser pens and used some on my AR22 (Aero Precision lower with Catch 22 AR15 bolt catch). I am impressed by the lubricity compared to RemOil. Wish I had used Break Free CLP earlier.

I like Ballistol but I found the wipes less than impressive, especially for the price.

The problem is they were preparing for a lawsuit and on top of that they tried to consolidate their companies into one place that backfired on them. At first they had several victories in court against the Sandy Hook people who said they were advertising stuff wrong. But I believe the lawyer fees, legal fees, etc put them under. They also had a tricky time because they were preparing for the lawsuit but at the same time they didn't know how the market was doing post-Sandy Hook. So they kind of mismanaged and focused on the lawsuit and they decided to just sell off their company bit-by-bit.

They also seem to suffer massive QA problems as I experienced it too with their 870 pump that I bought a few years back. For the same price, I was able to get a different brand that works very well.

It's sad what happened to such a great firearm company. They served generations of people, hunters, and just enthusiasts. I always love when seeing a 870 Wingmaster hanging on someone's wall and they talk about how they used it as a kid or memories of what hunting trip they had. Now all you get is a bottle of oil, and some broken, rusted hunk of junk that the scrap yard won't even take.

This x 10000000.

Is not about lawsuits.  It's about producing shit products. It's about rank incompetence.

This video from Military Arms Channel on recent Remington pistols is eye opening.
