Hi there! I appreciate all your input on this forum and have been wanting to ask you your opinion on using non-chlorinated brake cleaner to clean a BCG and then using Mobil One 30 weight synthetic oil to lube just the BCG?

I know this topic comes up from time to time and there are varied opinions as to the efficacy of this practice.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Thanks Quib! I will use your blended mix to clean and try the Mobil One.

Ron

I've used tranny fluid when we ran out of CLP with excellent results. Smelled like a burnt tranny after firing but it worked.

I've been using 5-30 synthetic motor oil for awhile. love it. stays lubed a lot longer than gun oil. does not have to be mobile 1. syntek, platinum, etc.  doug

I, too, use LP on the bolt/carrier, CLP everywhere else.  But some serious competitors use Mobile One for everything.  I think it matters less what you use, than where you put it and do you put enough of it.

IIRC, mobile 1 is on the approved list of alternate, field expedient lubes

Who's list of alternate, field expedient lubes? Have a link or copy of this list to post?

I remember reading it,  I'll look, see if I can find it

as for now, lets say its hearsay, when I find it, I will save it and post it up

I'll admit I've tried Mobil 1 in the beowulf with good results. A little goes a long way.

I always thought they put those little red tubes on the side of brake cleaner cans for blasting out AR15 gas tubes!!

Used to be posted on the Armalite website in their Library under "Tech Notes"...

www. armalite.com/library/techNotes/tnote65.htm

...but the "url" is no longer valid.

I think that it was entitled, "Alternate Cleaning and Lubrication Materials for Small Arms".

I used to mix CLP 1 to 1 with 15W-40 oil (what was available) for lubing machine guns.  The addition of the oil made sure the lube did not burn off.

I started using 0W30 in my AR's. I haven't done any really hard use, but it stays wet when the CLP dries up. I often just reapply the CLP so it stays wet, but the mobile 1 doesn't seem to need it.

Both are great products.
