I am going to be purchasing a POF upper and building my own lower for my first AR. Now the question is I read that their barrels are smoother than your typical chrome lined one. That being said do I still do the traditional shoot once clean method to smooth out the tiny imperfections or should it be good two go off the shelf?

PS: Found this site 2 months ago and love it. Good people. Good information.

I'd break it in because it can't hurt.  In addition there may be small pieces of metal etc. that get knocked loose during the first shot.

I dreaded breaking in a barrel but once I went through it, it wasn't that bad.  With the AR platform it was easy to knock the takedown pin out and clean the barrel and bolt assy.

I clean after the first shot, second shot, then every third shot a few times then every five shots.  After 25 rounds or so I then clean ever 10 rounds.  I figure three cleanings after every 10 rounds ought to be enough.

I'm sure someone else with have a "better" method.
