I've always used CLP as preservative of choice in my gun cabinets along with golden rods.  As I seem to be getting out to shoot less latley I'm wondering if there are better products for this purpose.

VCI products are great for gun storage. The military has used them for small arms storage for decades, and they are available in many forms: paper, cannisters, chips, etc. Using them eliminates having to slather on and then remove grease/oil products. Brownell's carries some of their products, or they can be ordered from: www.corrosionvci.com/corrosion/index.php

I also use the VCI paper in reloading die boxes, and in handgun cases.
