I followed the advice of a contact at a gun show and painted the lower receiver with high temp paint.  I think I screwed up and didn't wait long enough before handling???  Not sure what I did, but I can rub it and get black off.  

I'm guessing I need to strip it of parts, excluding roll pins (which I'll leave in) and do it over.  I'm guessing it's not a good idea to leave the parts installed and attempt to mask.  True?  Then what should I do to take the paint off the lower receiver?  Mineral Spirits?  It had a good gray finish before I painted it - just didn't like the gray.

Then what - paint it with Norrells?  Any other recommendations?

Did the paint you use require baking the part to cure? That is probably why it didn't dry properly. However you should have used a dedicated weapon paint such as Duracoat or Norelles.

It said 1/2 hr dry to touch and 1-2 hours dry for curing.  The only post-paint heating referenced that it make smoke at high temps initially and that was normal.

Anyone has more insight for stripping the paint and starting over?
