I have an ar15 (5.56) and a 9mm pistol, should I be shooting for two seperate otis kids or does something like the Tactical cleaning kit seem fit?

Since I have a couple of 9mm pistols, an AR and am an avid fan of Otis products, I'll chime in here...

Will you be using the Otis kits as your primary cleaning tools or will they be more for portable/field use?

I would caution you against using Otis stuff as your primary cleaning tools as the parts, while very well made, are designed primarily to be used in the field and are therefor not as strong, comfortable to use or as inexpensive as other products on the market. Take that cute little toothbrush in the 9mm pistol kit- it's nice to have but I wouldn't want to scrub down my pistol for an hour with it (something us HK P7M8 owners are very familiar with).

If you still want to use the Otis kit as your primary cleaning tools, then get the complete big old field kit. It's an excellent choice for what it is designed to do.

If you want a set of field tools, then get both kits and stuff the Otis M16 kit in the butstock of your AR or in it's range bag.

And if this isn't a long enough answer to your simple question already, I do love the Otis pull through cable system. If you aren't a high power, obsessed with removing every trace of foreign material, target and match shooter, the Otis system works extremely well.

If you go with the Tactical kit, you'll need to pick up their (or others) chamber brush and 5" rod for the AR-15.

It's a great kit, I use it to clean everything.

I've also got some M16 buttstock kits, which including the AR specific items and stores nicely.

The M4 kit doesn't have the chamber brush, but includes some scrapers (I don't use) and optics cleaners.

If you want to do it on the cheap, get the Tactical and buy the chamber brush & rod.

If not, I'd get a M16 kit and the Tactical.  

Personally, I've got about 6 kits, but I got them for 1/2 price, so...........

Their big bottles of bore cleaner work well, thinner than CLP, so I use them for cleaning.  You can use any patches, though theirs work well.

I love the cable system - it's all I use.
