Factory assembled PSA 20" nitrite upper. PMC .223A 55Gr. Used a combination of Troy & magpul magazines. First 18 rounds ran fine then it seems like it was an issue feeding. Failed to go into battery several times. Charging handle was difficult to pull Multiple times. Almost seems like it was under powered. Like there wasn't enough velocity to strip the round put of the magazine.. |

Could be an OOS carrier.
I had one of the Ice Arms lemons that has the cam pin channel cut all fucked up. |

Rig was short stroking at the end when you started to have the Jam problems.
Could have been that the rig was never cleaned correctly to start with, including using a chamber brush with CLP, then the upper receiver bearing areas correctly lube with fresh CLP as well; which cause the rig to foul choke out quickly, Could have been that the wrong solvents where use to lube and clean the rig, which causes the rig to fouling choke out quickly too. Or could have been that something in the gas system when south to either become loose or clog, as well as a hand full of other things that caused the rig to shot stroke as well. |

I pretty much only use CLP, Hoppes 9, & lubriplate (not on the AR) for everything.
After getting home & breaking it down I'm inclined to lean towards a short stroke. The back half of the carrier was much drier than the front so perhaps it all ran forward while it was stored or I simply didn't apply it evenly. It also did seem rather filthy for the minimal amount of rounds I put through it now that I think about it. Also the PMC .223A load is kinda known to be somewhat under powered. I have some IWI & AE M193 that I'm going to bring out with me next trip. Hopefully next weekend. |

Hoppes gun solvent is the wrong thing to use on a Ar-15. If leaves behind a protective layer that does not play nice with CLP (just forms a gummy mess as the cleaning agent in CLP tries to dissolve it).
Start off by cleaning the bore with something like Sweets copper solvent (does not take a lot of scrubbing to remove copper, and leave behind not solvent layer), then switch over to CLP with a chamber brush to clean the chamber. When you push the chamber mess out of the muzzle with cleaning patches, it will leave enough of the CLP traces in the bore for short term storage. As for the rest of the rifle to clean it, CLP as well, then just remember to give the lower parts a light coat of fresh CLP, as well the upper receiver bearing areas as well. |

Is it an optical illusion on my computer screen, or does the middle round seem to have a wider diameter bullet? For process of elimination, start with a thorough cleaning of the barrel, chamber using a chamber brush and solvent. Once clean, lube the 7 bolt lugs and rails of the bolt carrier so they are good and wet. You may also try a few different magazines other than the ones you already have (also mark the magazines to make sure it isn't one particular magazine causing an issue). Check to make sure the magazine catch is installed so that it is flush with the magazine release button. I would suggest polish the chamber like everyone else suggested.
Do the last round check and see if the bolt locks in the back. I really think a cleaning of the chamber will help. Use quality 5.56 Nato to test fire takes out the possibility of under powered ammunition. |

Bolt override jam. Bolt is not catching the top round as it comes forward and tries to drag it into the chamber but instead jams on it. Using the same ammo see if it loads manually by retracting the charging handle and letting it fly. Point the muzzle in a safe direction when doing this just in case. If it loads manually it must be short-stroking when firing.
With no ammo or magazine in the gun, yank the charging handle back and release it about 100 times. Clean and oil it and try shooting the same ammo again. If it still happens, you have to start looking for the problem. It could be the recoil spring is too heavy for the ammo. The buffer may be too heavy. The bolt carrier could be dragging (the exercise above will usually smooth out a new rifle). And of course, the gas system may be faulty. Another thing to check is the gas key on top of the bolt carrier to see if it has loosened. |
