I saw an AR today from a particular manufacturer that I won't name (begins with an O).  The owner was having problems with the rifle failing to eject. When the bolt would open, the ejector would slam the case or cartridge into the inside of the upper away from the ejection port. When we removed the BCG, we noticed the ejector was on the inside instead of the outside. We pulled the cam pin, spun the bolt 180, and reassembled it. Now it cycles just fine. The guy's son was ex-military and according to him was an "expert" with AR's. Now I've disassembled/reassembled a metric shit ton of AR's and I could swear I've never seen a bolt where you could put the cam pin in with the bolt spun 180 off. If you could, I would have done it a bunch. Has anyone else ever seen this?

My second question is about when it would jam. When the case slammed into the side of the receiver, you could no longer pull the charging handle back. To get the case out, we could use a dowel to push the bolt back just enough to to release the case. What would have caused this?

They made some bolts that didn't have the tapper on the bottom side so the cam pin could be inserted both ways

The locked up charging handle was probably just the carrier binding up against it when the spent case jammed it.
