Trying to figure out if my AR is chambered .223 or 5.56.

I can't find any markings, got the rifle from a gun show a few months back, it appears to be a homebuild.

Any ideas of how I can figure this out without hurting me or my rifle?

Or you could check headspace with a headspace gauge.

Really do a good close job of looking at this bbl. for any markings. My bbl markings are very lite and really tough to find and read.

Have it checked a gunsmith will usually charge $20.00 to do it for you. If it's not he can ream it to 5.56.

Check under the handgaurds, sometimes they are obscured by those

That's where mine is marked.  Top of the barrel under the handguards.  Hard to see in dim light.
