Question About New Armalite M15A4

I just purchased 2ea brand new Armalite M15A4CB's. I have about 600 rounds through each one. One of them jams much more then the other (same ammo and mags, of course).

After checking the jamming rifle, I noted that the feed ramps do not line up with the ramps on the locking lug. I had a buddy look at it and he said that even though they don't line up it's no big deal. Why would Armalite machine the lower receiver to match the locking lug if it wasn't suppost to line up?!

Can someone shed some light on this?

It jams 4 times out of 5 on the first round in the mags. After that I would guess it jams 3 times per 30rd mag. I even downloaded the mags to 28rds and it still jams.

I took the rifle back to where I purchased it and they test fired in their indoor range with three different mfg mags with 4 different types of ammo and it jammed multiple times on every mag and no real pattern on the ammo. The guy stated that it needs to go back to Armalite and that there is definitely something wrong with it.

I will call Armalite next week but I guess I want an answer to the feed ramp question. should the ramp in the lower receiver match the ramp on the locking lug???

I think if your rifle won't go 1,000 rounds without a hiccup (and i would prefer more like 3,000) it's time to sell them and get a Colt. Or at least something that works.

that's the barrel extension not the locking lug and yes the two ramps should match up, look up M4 feed ramps in the Glossary and FAQ for pics of correct ramps

I have had great customer service and turn around time,now ordering anything that is not in stock is a challenge.
i have cancelled two of my last three phone orders that were on back order(after 6 months each).

All of the Armalite flat top carbines I have seen lately look like that. The A2 style seem to be aligned better. I was just at a gun show last night and saw several like that. I bought one (M15A4CB) for myself as it was only $850. I was told that Armalite rifles are going up $100 each after Jan 1. I figure that if I have problems, Armalite will take care of it for me. The local dealer will not charge me anything to ship it back for service if it needs it. I don't see how I can lose. I also bought a set of the 2 pc aluminum 4 rail handguards that Armalite sells for it. They were another $200 after taxes.

No, only one of my M15A4CB's look like that. The other weapons feed ramp is perfectly aligned and it hardly ever jams when using the same mags/ammo. There is definitely something very different about the weapon I posted pics of.

Interceptor: let me know how yours operates when you break it in. Would the s# be anything close to 118XXX

No it is in the 220000's. I will give a range report when I get the opportunity.

That's interesting because my "good" M15A4CB is in the 220000 range.

it shouldn't ever jam in normal operation, will it go 200 rounds without a malf? I added your pics to the Glossary under M4 ramps, duly accredited.

Last Thursday, my "good" rifle (w/ serial# 22XXXX) jammed one time in 200rds. I can accept that.

On the same day, the AFU rifle (w/ serial# 118XXX, see pictures) jammed approx 3x per 30rd magazine. hat

The round nose-dived into the feed ramp and the bolt carrier would not foward with the forward assist.

good chance that's also mags or ammo related, it's a system. if the mags or ammo are marginal and the rifle is marginal then the whole is pitiful

My mags are mfg by Center Industies, D&H Industries and NHMTG (came with rifle). I have several mags from each of these mfg's. Also, these same mags work in my other weapon without this problem. Also, when I took the rifle back to where I purchased it the range guy used his mags and it malf'ed with those too. I also used one of my D&H's and ammo in my buddy's Rock River M4 and it worked flawlessly. All my mags are numbered and there is no pattern.

Everything I try to troubleshoot this indicates that it is not the mags or ammo.

Perhaps Combat_Jack is right, should have purchased a Colt . . .

rifle ramps shouldn't break the outside edge of the barrel extension when viewed from the side in the bottom photo you can see the scallop cut in the exterior at the bottom of each ramp

The problem is the receiver, not the barrel extension cuts. After looking at many Armalites over the past week, it appears that some receivers were machined incorrectly. I am still waiting for a reply back from Armalite themselves. They are doing inventory this week, so they are not manning the tech line. I hope to get a more detailed explaination next week.

To me the best thing about Armalite is there customer service,very fast responses and quick turn around.
If you send it back they fix it and return it fast!
With there warranty you should not have to do any grinding on anything,they don't like that.
