I have a RRA AR. My rifle has never failed to feed or fire. However I once fired a 3 round burst with one pull of the trigger. Could have been a bump fire since I have a nice soft 4-5# trigger, but here is something interesting....

Upon inspecting the primer of a chambered but unfired cartidge I notice that the primer gets "checked" or dented by the firing pin. A small indentation but quite noticeable. Larger than my friend's M4 when he does the same thing. Enough to make me feel like being extra cautious when releasing the bolt on a fresh mag.

I figure that the forward momentum of the firing pin and its sliding forward inside the bolt when it locks into the lugs may be enough to "check" the primer hard enough to cause it to fire.

Anyone heard of such a thing? Is this normal? Input please

Thanks

Yes it is normal. It is normal on any firearms with a floating firing pin.

It's normal for the Ar type rifles...

A 'new' or a 'tight' Ar-15 may not dimple the primer as bad, but give it time and it will...

You should not have to worry about an accidental discharge from just loading a round either, Rifle primers are generally harder and tolerate more abuse...
