I have a Bushy lower that I'm making into a XM177 knockoff and I just picked up a A1 Colt upper with the large pivot hole to go with it.

The problem is, and you probally already guess it it, is that I need a offset sleve for the upper.

Well after trying 2 offset pin/sleve combos i still have an annoying 1/8" gap and all the play that goes with it, between my upper and lower.

Is it possible to have a AR 'smith weld the holes in the upper shut and re-machine the front pivot holes with the same dia. hole that is on standard uppers?

Thanks
Tropic

It's a lot cheaper to just go with a C-7 upper or a  spec m-16 (before the A-1), and have a few improvements than to spend the money on verses having the upper re-welded, re-drilled, then re-anodized to match.

Also, We don't want to hear about you trying to stay true to XM-177 form, your lower receiver has the A2 improvements like a mag release fence and it's not a slab side.

I already had the "improvements" on the lower machined off.

I take it that you plan on having the upper re-worked, then both upper and lower sent off to the re-anodized?

Also, what is the game plan on the moderator, a fake longer one?
The XM-177 had a 10.5" barrel, with the moderator only making the barrel around 14", plus your lower is a Post ban, so no telescoping stock.

I plan on sending the upper, lower, barrel, etc. to be refinished in Colt gray by a place out in Az.

As for the barrel, It will be a SP-1 pencil barrel cut down to 10.5" My friend turned out an 4.5" XM177 moderator on a lathe for me, its an exact duplicate, except it doesn't surpress anything. It has the flash hider cuts, but they don't go all the way through. When the AWB sunsets in 2004, He said he can open up the cuts.

XM177's didn't have any bayonet lug, so I'm ok in this area.

The stock will be a standard fixed Car, an easy swap-out for a new one in 2004.

It will be registered as a SBR, when everyhing is completed.
