There are a lot of mil-spec diameter tubes out there, usually 6065 aluminum.
Then there are the mil-spec buffer tubes which are 7075 aluminum. Finish can vary by company. It's up to you whether you want all mil-spec parts and the amount of money you want to spend. If you really want to splurge check out the PWS buffer tubes. |

Pws buffer tubes are a fancy looking waste of money.
A proper mil spec RE is made from hammer extruded 7075. The best options are LMT, BCM, Vltor, and Colt ($). My recommendation is LMT, if it is good enough for KAC to use it is good enough for me. Last time I checked they were in stock at boltcarrier.com |

i just recieved a spikes buffer tube kit with the ST-T2 buffer. Definetly a nice unit. It has the laser markings indicating the stocks position if your stock has the capability of viewing them. Kind of pricey, but the nicer parts tend to be so.

If you don't want mil-spec, it's fine. Colt, Vltor, BCM, LMT, Spikes. Rinse. Repeat. |

$25 at primary arms. Fast shipping as well. I've always been impressed by them. I dare you to find a single person on these forums which had a 6061 buffer tube which broke in some way, and a 7075 would not have. The firearms world as a whole loves to make it seem like if you don't have the best of the best, it will fail, and you will die. Meanwhile all these top companies have ridiculous profit margins because they brand their items as best of the best and at a high price, because to the tiny consumers brain, spending more means higher quality. |

2-Yes there is a difference. 7075: Tensile Yield Strength 503 MPa 73000 psi AA; Typical 6061: Tensile Yield Strength 276 MPa 40000 psi AA; Typical ETA: If 6061 is adequate, why do so many companies who sell "Mil-Spec diameter" tubes hide the fact that they are 6061? |

How many people would even know what there buffer tube is made from? What if you are building a rifle where your life might depend on your rifle, you run your rifle hard, or you want the very best ar15 parts out there, etc. TERRIBLE ANALOGY. Mil- Spec 7075 buffer tubes are $20-$30. You are paying more because 7075 costs more. Many 6061 mil spec tubes are about the same price or $5-10 less - at the most. Typically companies who have a mil-spec tube that is 6061 doesn't mention what it is made from. Sorry but I'm not trying to attack you or start a fight.. I'm sure your a good guy. And yes there probably isn't too much difference between the two tubes for the average AR owner. But I do think your analogy sucks...no offense. |

Damage industries has a 7075 6 position tube for $20.85 Here
I got one with there lower build kit on black friday, haven't assembled the rifle yet as i'm still purchasing parts but feels like a quality part. Fits my PSA blem lower good with no slop. Also they had pretty quick shipping. |

Buffer Tube I am happy with. Its a 4 position tube though.
Tactical Intent Buffer TubeMade in USA! Made from aircraft grade 7075-T6 Aluminum (NOT the cheaper 6061 T6 used by others) Black Hard Anodize finish Standard length, 7.25" overall. Tube will not extend beyond the buttpad on standard M4/AR15 buttstocks Finish is nice as well. Not bad for $10 shipped. |
