Very interested in starting a build and have begun searching around for stripped lowers. The first thing I've noticed is the incredible price disparity. What is an acceptable price, including shipping/DROS fees for a quality stripped lower? I've found a Spikes for $79+$12 shipping+$45 for DROS. Is $136 expensive for a stripped lower or is that a good deal?

Palmetto State Armory has a weekend special on blem lowers for $59 each.  I ordered 3 and the total was right at $200 shipped.  That being said, I have several builds on Spike's lowers and can't complain about there quality.

Right now the world is your oyster. The prices are back to normal. If your hornier for one roll mark over another that's where you'll pay more.

Sounds like that DROS fee (I assume that's some silly Kalifornia thing) is going to make a stripped lower more expensive for you, me for example I'll try to find one with free shipping and then pay a $15 transfer fee. But at $136 its not that bad, you may be paying $20-30 more than people elsewhere but you'll forget about that little bit of money once you have much more in it at the end of your build.

Yeah, Kalifornia kills us on the DROS fees. It's $25 plus whatever the dealer wants to charge as a transfer fee. $45 is actually the cheapest I've found that's within a reasonable distance. Thankfully it also happens to be the closest.

You can't go wrong with Spike's. You get amazing quality at a low price. Before all those fun fees a Spike's stripped lower will run you anywhere between $76 to $120. If ordering online I would stick with Aim Surplus, Joe Bob Outfitters, and Primary Arms.

$179 plus all the fees on my end is too steep for a stripped lower for me. Although I do love the look of the completely FDE lower, just out of my price range.

DOA is actually where I found the Spikes I'm interested in. Would you say $136 is a fair price after shipping and the damn fees I have to pay?

With your DROS fees, yes.  $136 is good.

$136 is a pretty fair deal here, shops in my area charge $60 just for the transfer and DROS fees.

What part of CA are you from? Around here (Clovis/Fresno) stripped lowers are pretty affordable. Shoot me a IM and I can recommend you some shops if you're near by.

Thanks, I'm down here in Orange County though. Shops are pretty few and far between, hence the ridiculous prices.

When you find a dealer ask if the transfer is for each lower or will he do multiples for the same price.

The DROS (dealer record of sale) is for the background check and pretty sure you can still get multiples (was 4 spaces on form) and just pay the one time $25 fee.
I use to do it that way when Big5 had layaways on firearms and pay off all but $5 on each until I had 3 or 4 and DROS them all at once, saving $50 to $75.

If you could get 4 of the PSA blems for $60 each and only pay one transfer and DROS fee it can save you quite a bit.

Also you can check the dealer locator on gunbroker and maybe find a small out of the way shop that will deal with you.

Thanks for all the posts, guys. Good to know I've been looking in the right places and the price I'm looking at isn't awful. Really appreciate all the help.
