I am going to try and move this out of the "In Stock" thread

I posted a short review regarding the BCG I purchased from Midway because there seems to be alot of bad press right now.
Maybe we can populate this thread with some educated comments.
I am concerned about them and would appreciate input from anyone who has actually employed one of these BCG's

Okay, initial testing complete. I put 90 rds(LC brass, CCI BR primer, Varget, 55gr Z-Max, 3100 fps) down range with the Stoner BCG. SLow and rapid fire.
The assembly operated as intended, no chambering or ejection issues, this is the first full mass carrier I have utilized and I can definetly tell the difference.
I do not like the extractor it chewed the hell out of my beautiful brass. As far as the bolt goes, I see no signs of premature wear, I will say that upon visual comparison with the other bolts, it appears that the Stoner has just a little bit larger radius
on the machined fillets, which would give the appearance that it is worn.

After reading a few posts on bolt wear with the AR Stoner BCG I took a closer look at mine. I received it in late January, intending for it to be a dedicated BCG in a pistol upper I had put together over a few months previous.  After less than 100 rounds, this what I found:



The depth of the "step" is close to 1/32". The bcg used in the same upper prior to receiving the AR Stoner shows no such wear after substantially more rounds in both that and other uppers.  There have been no failures or issues associated with the AR Stoner other than this problem of wear.

Bolt wear after 200 rounds…..is this just wearing into the gun

New….. I can see the lugs have more of a radius than some other pictures I have seen on other bolts.

The carrier on the other hand shows very little missing finish, that it.

I don’t notice any burring but the metal is worn for sure. If the bolt wears in then stops after it wears in then that’s cool but if it keep deteriorating it might not last to terribly long.
Should last long enough for all this crap to catch up or broke people start selling off their hoarding project
I have read some things about what appears to be premature wear but I am not reading anything on failures. I just built the rifle and this was the first 200 round. One mag dump for function test and was just silky smooth , not a hint of a hiccup….

Most of the failures I read about were the extractor.  And mine is rough, it chewed on my brass.
I think the carrier is perfectly fine, ultimately i am just going to replace the bolt at some point.

Ok, my extractor is good. I reload all my ammo and upon inspection of the head I cannot tell that they have even been cycled

That looks abnormal.
Also looks like you have more problems than just the bolt.

Yeah, like PFC says.  I would look at the barrel extension pretty closely.  Maybe check headspace if you haven't but usually short space stresses the back of the lugs more than anything, but it can cause all sorts of wierd stuff.  That shouldn't happen even with cheaper bolts.  

Adding these bolts to my do not buy list

Nick - Can you please clean the bolt and take another picture? It's hard to tell if the deformation and swirls in between the lugs is oil/grease or if that's the actual material that is warped like that.

This is what my AR Stoner bolt looks like after about 200 rounds. No issues whatsoever from day one. But then again, I purchased this last November, before the craziness started, before the possible "bad batch of bolts that weren't hardened properly" were sold.

Nice beer cap.  Word of advice: Friends don't let friends drink and reload.  

Most of the time it's pretty hard to tell anything from pictures when inspecting machined parts.  Machinists use many different tools and techniques for QA inspections.

I'd take more pictures, but I sent mine back to Midway yesterday. It's garbage.

Edit: This is after only about 20 rounds I might add. The bolt is so soft it's not even good for an emergency backup.
