I'm seeing these generally listed as the two overall best lowers, but which is definitively better? Also, I've read it might be a good idea to get a lower/upper combo from the same company, is that true?

1A and 1B on the choice scale. Both super excellent products.

Your final decision will be made more on looks and design than anything.

As far as upper and lower compatibility..... for the money you'll be spending might as well go all Seekins or all Mega. Their unique designs, (upper and lower) compliment each other.

It's whatever you prefer. That said, the seekins uppers are few and far between.

I would go with a Mega matched set.

Not a fan of the racy Seekins magwell swoosh.

Yes, you would need the LPK to install into the stripped lower.

I assume you will buy a top notch trigger to go with the Mega set. I would go with the Geissele, on the same page.
If you so this then all you will need id the mag catch and button. In my 2 MA-10 builds I used a colt Mag catch, and an oversized button flattened on 1 side to fit perfect with the reciever. You will also need a Saftey catch. That's it.
As far as the upper you need a bolt carrier, and complete bolt, I use JP in mine.

Sorry, you need a grip too. But buying that LPK is a waste of money. The AMB. set comes with the bolt catch installed.

Wow, thanks for the pics and info! And yes, I do plan to use that Geissele trigger. So after I obtain the safety catch, mag catch and button, all I need is a BCG?

I'm looking at these three BCGs, any reason to go with the more expensive LWRC? Do the DD or Phase 5 provide any specific benefits distinguishing themselves from the others?

Personally, I've had both lowers. Both are solid units, however, the seekins lower seems to be a little more beefy and I like the non-traditional looks better.

I actually hadn't thought about the piston difference. I'm thinking I'd like my rifle to be piston –– can I still use the normal mil spec lowers/uppers? Is the only part difference the BCG, or what other different parts would I need?

Any other comments on the Phase 5 BCG -vs- DD or another?

I dig Mega. I scooped one of their mono uppers before they were discontinued.

Spend some time in the Piston AR subsection for info on that stuff.

Piston is unnecessary weight. Conventional DI systems work extremely well. I can't think of a problem that someone would solve by going piston. Just my opinion.

I'm going to have a 23" 6.8 rifle, so I'm thinking where weight is lost in length, any extra weight will only help with recoil on the small carbine. Also, I like the idea of the piston taking excess carbon and heat out of the rifle, so that it prolongs the life of the parts and doesn't get as dirty as the DI system.

I see that Palmetto State Armory (PSA) lowers cost substantially less, using the same grade of steel. Any reason not to save some $ and get an PSA lower instead?

For ease of assembly,the SEEKINS,no roll pins to mess with.Bought one yesterday and put it together with 2 allen wrenches,a screwdriver(for the grip), and a castle nut wrench.took the whole sum of 15 minutes to get done.

Seekins has a excellent rep, so does Mega. I bought a matched pair of receivers from Rainier Arms last week. Its their house brand, but made by Mega. The fit of the two is very tight, but most important, the upper will provide a nice tight fit for whatever barrel we select. - CW
