If I have a new barreled upper and want to put that barrel on a different upper...can i reuse the barrel nut without any problems?  Say its a DPMS A1 upper and I want that barrel on a flattop.

Yep. Just use a good wrench so you don't bugger it up.
If done correctly it's fairly simple.
