Buying stuff for a 300/221 build - the variable gas block I want to use, which will be in the "pistol" position, says that it will work under a 1-3/4" ID handguard.  I checked my Hogue Overmolded that came on my TacSol 22 upper, and it measures 1.620" ID- just a bit too small.

I want to use a full floating handguard, but don't want to empty the bank account either.  Everything I've built so far has been standard stuff, this is my first venture into option land.

Whats my options for a decent floating stock that won't break the bank?

I assume the assembly also serve as the barrel nut?

I just picked up a YHM Light Weight from Midway. Dealer price was $91.00.
