I finally got some spare time to put my Stag kit together....downloaded the AR15 instructions....pulled up a assembly video online...did everything step by step. checking each function, everything went together great. Attached the upper on the lower, charged the action and put the selector on fire, pulled the trigger and nothing. Checked the safety...it was on "fire". So, I took off the upper and began to check the trigger function.... I found that the back (looks like a spur) of the hammer is being caught by the disconnecter....if I push the hammer all the way back and then use a punch to push down on the disconnecter, it releases the hammer slightly....the hammer is still cocked and it drops like normal when I pull the trigger. The issue occurs when the hammer goes further back...that is when the hammer and the disconnecter catch on each other.
update: I swapped out the hammer & disconnecter from another kit...now the action functions as it should. So... what should I do with the original parts....can I lightly file the two contact points?...or would that impact something I'm not aware of?
