Almost done with this build.  Bolt carrier should be arriving tomorrow and I still need some sling swivels (I want to get the ALG* ones, but everyone seems to be out of stock right now).  Still need to precisely align the handguard (it's slightly off), torque and stake the castle nut, and I presume I also need to check headspace on a build.  I'll need to get or borrow the tools to do all of that.  I'm also going to get an Arisaka offset mount for my Inforce WML to use until I get a light for this rifle (probably an Arisaka/Surfire light in one of their mounts; the WML will then go back on my FAL).  The only thing I messed up was that I accidentally dinged the handguard pretty good, so the finish is marred and a bit of metal displaced, although it's probably not glaring if you don't know it's there like I do.

Once the BCG and swivels are installed, should weigh about 6lbs 10 oz. with an empty mag.

This is not only my first build, but my first AR-15 ever.  Never owned one before.  One thing I'm glad about is that during our so-called "freedom week" here in CA folks here and from Cola Warrior were donating magazines to Californians like myself who had not the means to buy any at the time, so I've got a good little bunch of AR mags.

I'm going to save up to get a TA-33 ACOG for this rifle and an ADM compact ACOG mount with the spacer to put it at the correct height (lightest quality QD option I could find).  I'll probably try to go used on the ACOG to save money.

Top pics are the free State configuration, bottom the CA-legal one (I decided to go featureless; I really hope the hearing challenging our AWB gets rescheduled soon; damned coronavirus!).

Parts are as follows (* indicates a past or present Cola Warrior sponsor; thanks for sponsoring us!):

Upper Assembly:

-Upper w/ EP cover: Aero Precision No-FA
-Barrel: Daniel Defense* 16" Mid-Length Lightweight Profile 1:7 CHF
-Gas Tube: Daniel Defense*
-Bolt Carrier: Forward Control Design* Slickside Bolt Carrier (I think they are made by Sionics and NP3 coated by Robar)
-Bolt: LMT Enhanced
-Handguard: Geissele* Mk16 10.5"
-Charging Handle: Geissele* Airborne (URGI version)
-Gas Block: Battle Arms Development* Titanium Low-Profile .625" (pinned on by ADCO)
-Bayonet Lug: removed by ADCO from a Brownell's* .625" FSB and pinned on by them
-Muzzle Device: Forward Controls* 6315 (with Cola Warrior peep n/ crossbones) with a Colt rifle grenade spring
-Sights: LMT BUIS with a Compass Lake Engineering FSP (I think I got the .05")
-Sling Swivel Mount: Arisaka Defense* MLOK QD

Lower Assembly:

-Lower: Aero Precision STS
-Buffer Tube and Castle Nut: Aero Precision
-Stock: LWRC Compact
-End Plate: LMT QD
-Trigger Guard: LMT Winter
-Bolt Catch: Geissele* Maritime
-Selector: Radian* Talon
-Grip: Magpul* MIAD
-Trigger: Geissele* Cola Warrior West II engraved SSA-E
-Ambi Mag Catch: Norgon
-Buffer/Spring: Geissele* Super 42
-Buffer Detent: Forward Control Design* reinforced detent
-Remaining Small Parts: Aero Precision LPK

To make it Cali-legal as a featureless rifle, I used an AIM Sports A2-style "muzzle brake" as the muzzle device, a Sparrow Dynamics featureless grip, and a Strike Industries stock stop I cut to fix the stock on the 3rd position.  I also switched the selector arms around, although I'll probably put the long lever on the right side (pictured on the left).

Built this recently. Was waiting on it’s Scalarworks RMR absolute co-witness Mount and it’s Surefire M600IB lamp head to be painted to match the NP3 finish. Overall build was to build it light and reliable. I plated as much as possible in NP3. I disassembled the Silent Buffer and had as much of it as they would accept plated. I disassembled the CTR stock and plated the friction lock components. I should have went with a LMOS carrier and used a V7 lithium aluminum lower for more weight savings. Radians are nice, but heavy.

When shooting it, you get the feeling that every round fired short stroked since the gas system is dialed in right with a proper ejection pattern. You could put a 5 gallon bucket down and most of the brass would land in the bucket. Everything riding on a bed of NP3 doesn’t hurt the feeling either. I faced the upper before plating and needed the barrel when assembled. Accuracy is excellent when tested on the lead sled. It’s in the low 6 pound range.

Lower: AXTX A-DAC lower
Receiver Extension: V7 Lithium Aluminum
Castle Nut Assembly: PWS Ratcheting Castle Nut, no staking required
Buffer: JP Enterprises gen 2 Silent Buffer
Stock: Magpul CTR MILSPEC
Buttpad: Limbsaver
Buffer Retainer: V7 titanium, not needed but I prefer the silent buffer stay retained
Pistol Grip: Magpul MOE rubber overmold
Grip Screw: V7 Titanium
Selector: Battle Arms Development BAD CASS Short Throw
Trigger: Geissele 3DSG
Trigger Pin: V7 titanium, hammer pin left AXTX proprietary
Take down pins: Battle Arms Development enhanced titanium

Upper Receiver: V7 lithium aluminum
Dust Covers and pin: V7 aluminum
Rail: BCM KMR 13”
Rail Hardware: V7 titanium
Barrel: Proof Research 14.5” barrel, flash suppressor pinned
Flash suppressor: Surefire suppressor Mount
Gas Block: SLR .750” titanium adjustable block, pinned
Gas Tube: V7 inconel Midlength tube
Charging Handle: Radian Raptor SD cut
Bolt Carrier Group: JP Enterprises FMOS BCG
Cam Pin: POF Rollercam with modifier gas key for DI Systems
Front Sling Mounts: Strike Industries angled QD mounts
Rail Covers: BCM
Rail hand stop: Railscales Karve
Sling: BlueForceGear Padded QD sling
Weapon Light Mount: IWC In-line keymod Mount
Weapon Light body: IWC M600 backbone
Weapon Light head and tailcap: Surefire M600IB Intellibeam

Optic not shown: Trijicon RMR Type 2, RM09 1moa dot size
Optic mount: Scalarworks Absolute Co-witness Mount

The newest member of the family. My take on a DMR/SPR type gun:
  • Aero Precision M4E1 upper and lower receivers, and 12" Atlas S-One handguard
  • Ballistic Advantage 20" .223 Wylde premium black series stainless barrel
  • Superlative Arms adjustable gas block
  • VG6 Epsilon comp
  • Toolcraft black nitride BCG
  • LaRue Tactical MBT-2S trigger
  • Magpul PRS stock, MOE+ grip, bipod, and MS1 sling
  • Vortex Diamondback Tactical FFP 4-16x44 scope
  • all other parts Aero Precision

If they ever get them back in stock, I'd like to put a Radian Talon ambi safety on it, and maybe a Raptor charging handle.

I lapped the upper and bedded the barrel extension when I built it, and I'm hoping it turns out to be a good shooter. Haven't had a chance to get to the range yet, but maybe this week.

My bespoke AR. Aero lower, Brownells upper and Nickel boron BCG. H3 buffer. BCM 2 stage trigger. Lightweight profile 1:7 barrel. Daniel Defense buttstock and pistol grip.  SiG Romeo 5 optic and Tread ambi charging handle. CMMG ambi safety. The morale patch on the bag is the DTOM (Don't Tread On Me) from my Type 3 NWUs I wore the day I retired.

Solid pound lighter than almost any AR at the shop I moonlight at, carbon fiber Faxons excluded. Got hurt working on jets and a lightweight gun was a definite consideration. Never was exactly an AR fan. Corona happened, and the math changed.

The target was function testing at 7 yards offhand, cheapie M193 spec ammo; that's 20 rounds in one hole. I didn't build it, but I did select the parts. That's the bespoke.

I have pictures, but they're not showing up for some reason.

A friend brought some lowers over to use my tooling (while I had beers and talked shit ) a while back, and I just found a polymer one he left behind.  He has since PCSed so he said I could have it.

Guess I have a .22lr to build too.

I havent decided what I will do with the second lower I finished. Seemed silly to make such a mess to do one, when I had two lowers. I think my next lower is going to be stamped for SBR, and I have a factory Anderson lower I will probably get engraved for that.

6lbs with an empty mag, 7 with the suppressor in it's full configuration, >6.75 <7lbs in short config. The goal was to have a setup with 250y+ of usable ballistics, light enough to carry in a bag all day without discomfort or odd printing, be as far under 23in OAL as possible, and be ready to go as soon as it came out (so no LAW folder) while using a minimum of proprietary parts. All while retaining enough durability to actually be used. I'm a few ounces over my weight goal and have yet to test ballistics, but so far everything is working out better than I hoped tbh.
