Ok dont laugh! I could get a Lower Receiver and put on a 6.8 Upper switch to an .223 Upper and it will work the same

Yes BUT, they use different mags and bolts also, so they each need their own BCG. In other words if you uppers are complete then you can swap them back in forth with their own mags.
The 6.8 can be loaded into a 223 mag but only a few rounds will feed reliabable, you can buy a steel 223 mag and change out the follower to the 6.8 and make that work. |
