Which receiver would you choose for an AR build (SPR)?

The list of candiates I have so far is:

RRA
Stag Arms
DPMS
CMT

The top of my list so far is the RRA arms matched flat top upper and lower that Brownells sells for $250.

CMT is the same as Stag and that would be my choice.

I'd go with whichever one was cheapest and had the best logo in my opinion.  Usually, that's DPMS, but I'm going DoubleStar (DSC) on my next one.

Forged lower == forged lower.  Looks (finish color, logo, text, etc.) are about all that's different between those in the list.

On that list I would go with the Stag...best logo in my book...I'm a animal lover..taste that is.

I just got done with a Superior Arms stripped lower build. I got the lower at a SUPER price (I think Rob likes me?). Let me rephrase that - I rode my bike ('87 Yamaha FZR1000) out RB Precision and pulled up to the shop. The first thing Rob says to me is that he always wanted that bike when he was younger. We shot the shit for a while and I signed some paperwork, then he asked me if $75 sounded good. At the time they were $85 so I said GREAT. I handed him a handfull of money and he gave me change and the receipt. The bottom line on the receipt was $75!!!
If you want a really good deal - Ride your old bike out the Quad Cities and talk to RB Precision!!!

Robert and Krista are good people. Have dealt with them many times. Met them in the early days of the business and they have always treated me good.

The project is a Mk 12 Mod 0 clone and the reason RRA was at the top of the list is I can get a handpicked matched upper and lower with tolerance of +/- .0005" for 250.00.

I gather that there isn't a big difference among the many receivers available on the market and all will have similar performance characteristics with the variations being in personal preference (logo, etc)?

Just got my mega upper about 10 min ago and slapped in on the mega lower and its a precise fit. same color and finish (ordered from to different locations). and total cost with ffl transfer fee is $255 in my hands.

+1 on the Stag Lower

I have 2 and both seem top of the line.  For my next build might have to try a RRA.
Really like the RRA logo, but hate to leave stag lowers due to the good luck I have had with them

DPMS

In that case go with any of the lowers mentioned but go with the stealth LaRue billet upper.

I have several LaRue products and they are fantastic.  But, what makes their upper better than the others mentioned here?

It makes sense that the lower really doesn't affect accuracy in the sense the upper receiver does.

I'm looking for a POF myself. But from your list....I'd choose the RRA. That's been my second most wanted for a while now.

I just added a poll -- it would be great if everyone would weigh in on this.  Comments in addition to a vote will be more helpful.  Thanks!

Sorry..the POF is my #1 for my next buy right now. I voted for the RRA. All my other builds have been on DPMS and Bushy. From your list, I have handled all but superior arms. All are nice. I don't like the front of the magwell on the Megas but they are pretty nice. Can't bet them on price either. All are nice quality. It really comes down to your budget and aesthetic value.

Well, here's my conclusion...I'm going with a RRA lower and a LaRue upper.  Thanks to everyone for their input.

Oh, I mean DPMS!  You need more options in the poll, but I know it won't let you edit it.

If you can lay your hands on a Old CMT Lower, I would grab it up fast.

Otherwise of the ones listed I would take the DPMS Lower

I have built up 5 LRB Arms lowers, and I like them alot

I like the LRB lowers, they are rare & you will never see that many of them + LRB has an excellent reputation for the M14 rifle that will hopefully carry over to the AR.

i've worked closely with the Superior Arms folks on several projects now.  they have been super to work with and i love their engraving options.

they get my vote.
