I've finally collected enough spare parts from previous builds to throw together number four. She comes in at six pounds even and is a perfect little carbine for small framed shooters like my wife.
I recommend everyone have at least one stripped down AR-15 for shooting holes in the ground, plinking pop cans, instructing new shooters, or even lending to the brother in-law out at the range. I like it and think it is perfect!
I have one planned as well but I'm thinking of using an A1 upper instead. |

I like it, a lot. I have one similar planed except I plan to use an A1\C7 upper and a M4 stock.

I love the looks. But i'd use a A2 stock set so that they learn to be good with something they cant customize. That way they can get even better with something they CAN customize
BTW, what was your guesstimated overall build cost? |

Good point on the A2 stock. My only hesitation is the fact that I've let eleven year old kids shoot my rifles, and having the adjustable stock is about mandatory for them. I'm hitting another gun show this weekend, maybe they'll have some more deals on A2s. Regarding cost, remember I went cheap; BM receiver set - market price, you would do much better with RRA prices LPK - collected individually from gunshows, other builds, donations, etc. Probably $50 Bolt carrier group - DPMS chrome lined, brand-new from JSE Surplus - $104 Barrel parts - again, collected individually. Probably $25 Barrel - Model 1 Sales - $180 Buttstock - JSE Surplus - $30 |

What was the brand of the barrel? Nice gun, BTW. My XM16E1 stays stock, except for the round handguards I placed in lieu of the triangle handguards.
